I am from Ōtautahi Christchurch and currently studying at Ilam School of Fine Arts, majoring in painting. My practice has previously primarily involved distortion of figurative subjects to explore how a described body is perceived when represented solely by its colour and texture omitting the features that give it personhood. Currently, I'm shifting into a more self-interrogative practice, more concerned with the qualities of invented image painting and how well it accommodates socially concerned subjects in comparison to other, perhaps better equipped, practices. I paint in a sort of consciously delusional manner, aiming for representational accuracy with the knowledge this will likely be thwarted by both my limited technical ability and the autonomous qualities of paint.
