Jana Wood presents a group of semi-abstract works that continues an on-going expression of connection to place and investigation of space - at Port Waikato, where she now lives and works. These works have developed carefully over the past year, resulting from a slow kind of looking and feeling, hearing, listening and being, that is not just visual observation, but is an all-encompassing kind of deep awareness of the energy that surrounds her; wildness, spiritual and elemental. Despite the obvious connection to all things natural , there is always the organised assemblage of land present in her works, the grid omnipresent — representative of the culture-nature divide.
Jana received her Bachelor of Visual Arts from AUT in 2015, and Post Graduate Diploma Fine Arts from Elam in 2018. Her work is held in various private collections both here and overseas, as well as the James Wallace Arts Trust collection. Recent exhibitions include National Contemporary Art Award (2022), “Iteration 14” Mother-Mother Archive, Lot 23 (2022), “Three Painters” at McLeavey Gallery (2020).
