Artist

Suzanne Lustig

I was born and raised in Utrecht, the heart of the Netherlands. I’ve also spent a lot of time in The Hague where I studied graphic design, at the Royal Academy of Arts. The Netherlands is my creative home.

My sense of adventure brought me to New Zealand about 8 years ago where I am living and working most of the year. The big Pacific Island vibes help me focus and chill. This does not take away the longing for a buzzy European summer filled with creative input, I tend to return and charge my creative battery every year.

I work mainly with oil pastels and Indian ink doing drawings inspired by European art movements like COBRA. Their embrace of spontaneity, experimentation, and rejection of formal constraints is basically how my brain works anyway. The tactility of the medium allows me to build depth and texture, creating layered images, rich in details.
