Artist Statement
With prized plumage and a stabbing beak the Kōtuku holds mythical status. Origins in other Lands investigates the enduring collision between the real and the simulated by pulling focus on a ‘cosmopolitan’ bird, found worldwide but endangered in New Zealand.
