Artist Statement
Motueka River Stone is a conglomerate variety made by compression of many stones over eons of time. This piece is about the balance between delicacy and strength. The lightness of wings. The strength of stone.
About the Artist
Lauren Kitts
Lauren Kitts has gained international recognition as a professional sculptor over the last 30 years. To date, she has attended over 25 sculpture symposia, nationally and internationally, exhibits on a regular basis, and completes commissioned works. Her inspiration is the natural world, where form, in all its myriad complexity, abounds. She also explores the connection between the material world and the “unseen”. Kitts is concerned with the nature of uncertainty, and man-made climate change, which is expressed in many of her new works. She moved to the Nelson/Tasman area 5 years ago, where she is the owner, director and sculptor of Hawks Valley Sculpture Gallery.
