Artist Statement

This work is both an exposition of changing hard material like stone into fluid movement, and a comment on our role as humans concerned with the climate change crisis. Its abstract presentation leaves the viewer free to interpret, whilst also bearing visual clues as to the meaning of the work.

About the Artist

Lauren Kitts

Lauren Kitts has gained international recognition as a professional sculptor over the last 30 years. To date, she has attended over 25 sculpture symposia, nationally and internationally, exhibits on a regular basis, and completes commissioned works. Her inspiration is the natural world, where form, in all its myriad complexity, abounds. She also explores the connection between the material world and the “unseen”. Kitts is concerned with the nature of uncertainty, and man-made climate change, which is expressed in many of her new works. She moved to the Nelson/Tasman area 5 years ago, where she is the owner, director and sculptor of Hawks Valley Sculpture Gallery.
