Artist Statement
‘The sun arrives as she climbs into one of the bodies of water. She chooses a dirty pool.’ The record of the dream diary was not consulted prior to this paintings creation and so details stray from the later called upon text.
About the Artist
Sam Walker
I am from Ōtautahi Christchurch and studied my Bachelors and Masters in Painting in Christchurch at the Ilam School of Fine Arts. I moved to the greater Pōneke Wellington area with my partner in late 2020 upon the completion of my Masters degree. I grew up in Christchurch’s greenbelt, just outside of Halswell. A lot of my artistic sentiments are a mix of semi-rural experience and formative years skirting around a broken city centre. Both the landscape and this ‘brokenness’ is translated into literal subjects in my work.
